Peace and Security

Peace and Security

“When they say, Peace and security, then sudden destruction comes upon them....” (1 Thes. 5:3)

Human society by design is intended to provide us with peace and security. Without peace and security, our lives are spent in fear and suspicion. Our government is committed to ensuring our safety; our hospitals and clinics seek to preserve our health and physical well-being, our banks and other financial institutions promise security for our savings and investments. But ultimately, how much can we truly count on the security promised by our financial institutions, our government, our health care system, and in so many other things on which we rely?

When placed under enough scrutiny and thoughtful consideration, everything and everyone we have come to trust and depend on cannot offer us perfect peace and security. In a world that is still plagued with war, poverty, disease, crime, and injustice, there is nothing in human society that can guarantee us eternal peace and security. Even the Bible tells us that “when they say, Peace and security, then sudden destruction comes upon them...” (1 Thes. 5:3).

According to the word of God, true peace and security can only be found in Jesus Christ and in His eternal life. In John 3:16 we see that God gave His only begotten Son so that everyone who believes into Him would not perish, but would have eternal life. The eternal life spoken of here is the divine life, the uncreated life of God, which is not only everlasting with respect to time but is also eternal and divine in nature. This life is God Himself, and His life is indestructible (John 14:6). Nothing is more eternally secure than God Himself.

All the problems related to ensuring our peace and security are ultimately solved in Christ alone. While the world is under the threat from many sources – from disease and contagion, from a collapsing economy, from criminals and terrorists who would steal, kill, and destroy - Christ came that we might have His life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). Not only is Christ our security, but He is also our peace: “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27).

If your heart is troubled, believe into Him (John 14:1). If you do not have the security of the eternal life of God, believe into the name of the Son of God (1 John 5:13) and ask Him to give you His life. Come to Him with an open and honest heart and say to Him:

Lord Jesus, I need You. Lord, I believe in You. Come into me! Give me Your life right now.  Fill me with Your peace. Thank You Lord for being my real peace and security. I love You, Lord.
