You Need Another Life
After a hard day's work installing wood flooring on our knees, my boss Rick came up to me and said:
—Are you tired, Mario?
—Yes, I’m tired.—I replied.
Then he told me something that after almost 40 years I still clearly remember:
—What you need is another life!
I did not answer him then. I did not know what kind of life he was talking about, but his words stayed with me: “You need another life!”. They disturbed me very much for two or three days. I thought about it all the time. I could not sleep well and I would wake up thinking, “What did he mean by saying that I need another life? Is there another life?”
Several days went by before I finally asked him:
—The other day you told me something that has been bothering me and will not leave me alone. Why did you tell me that I need another life?
Rick answered with the following question:
—What do you call the life you are living?
I replied to him:
—I am a human being and I live like everyone else; this is the only life I know.
Then he said to me:
—We can say that our life is just an existence for a short time. Today we live, but one day we die. We exist only for a short time, but the life that I am talking about is the divine life, an eternal life. It is the life of God. It is the life that you need so that you can live eternally. When you want to receive it, come and tell me.
The conversation stopped for that day; however, what he had said made me think even more than before. I asked myself the question: “Is it true that there is another life, a life that is eternal?” I had doubts, but I was sure that someday I would die. At that point in my life, I had already been on the verge of death on several occasions. I thought, “I need to ask about this life and find out whether or not it is true.” Having made my decision, I went to talk to him and said:
—I've been thinking about the eternal life that you told me about and I’m ready to receive it now.
He took out a small Bible and read to me Romans 10:9-10, which says, “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart there is believing unto righteousness, and with the mouth there is confession unto salvation.” Then he said to me:
—You must do both: believe and confess.
I replied:
—Just tell me what I need to do, and I will do it.
He led me to pray a prayer, and that is how I received the eternal life.
—M.M.
You can also receive the eternal life by praying this prayer:
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for dying for my sins. I thank You that God has accepted Your death on my behalf and that He has raised You from the dead as a testimony that Your death was effective. Based on my believing and confessing this fact, I receive You into me as eternal life!
